To the people who get the system errors from saved games, I think I've
found one problem. When all your characters get it and you "Restart This
Game", it seems you must start with the same save game you originally
used, or the latest save game made before your characters got it. I have
alot of saves just incase I want to start from another point because of
something I missed. Whenever I started from one save, died, then restarted
from another save I would get a SYSTEM ERROR 60. I realize this maay not
read too clearly, but it is getting late. For those who can read this
garbled grammar, I hope it ps. helps.

Hmmm - you just may have something there. Normally, as we advance ever
onward and downward, we save and move, save and move, until some mean
horrible ugly thing does us in, then we restore from the last save. Now,
as I've stumbled around levels 12 & 13, I've been trying many tactics and
restarting from any number of places, and all of a sudden I get this
system error..... Glad someone around here still has a clear mind!
-CC PS: sorry for the inane
tone of this messge, but it's jsut one of those days when it's good to be
alive and misspelling!

Hmm, we consider "Save and Move" to be cheating. We save at the end of
each session only, and if an entire party dies (happened once), we
consider them dead and start over. Much more fun when there is the
constant shadow of death over the party -- makes us more conservative. /ex

I'd like to vote for FTL coming out with a DM hint book with maps showing
all secret locations, what spells work with what monster, what weapons
work best, etc. I just finished it and found maybe 99% of the stuff but
I'd still buy the book just to see what I mis sed. Of course FTL
never came out with one for Sundog so4 I don't expe]I ct them to come
out with one for
DM...but if they're listening......

looks dangerous, or after I accomplished something difficult. My life is
not long enough to get through the game otherwise!! -CC

Corey: Yeah, maybe in a few years when you're still trying to get past
the "Cowards will be hunted down and killed" area you'll change
your mind. I consider the save option "magic" and use it in place
of a resurrection spell.

The mirrors are useful in 2 places, I think. I know that they are useful
in one. You don't need more than 1, I don't think. Good to have both
vorpal weapons, I didn't, and it was tough.
Well, 3 of my champions died, but I offed ol' Chaos or whatever his name
was. Pretty exciting, my last remaining character had the tinest sliver
of hit points left. -CC

Rick: "Cowards will be..." was tough, but I got through it without saving
(I did manage to hang the program a little later, which has given me
incentive to save a *little* more often -- it was a weird combination of
events in the "moving pit" room). Our front rank fighters typically carry
6-8 top-level healing potions each. That, a few fireballs, and discrete
use of "freeze life" got us through the spiders.
As for a hint book, FTL is definitely coming out with one -- it was
written by Tracy Hickman, co-author of Dragonlance Chronicles, etc. -- a
very good writer. I don't know whether it has maps though -- they don't
seem like something that would normally be put in a hint book. I'm looking
forward to finding out about Lyte and Darc, among other things.
Ron: To get the first Vorpal Blade, you need to push a button that
doesn't look like a button; looks like something that's never been
important anywhere else. Then you need to find another button in the
secret passage that opens. This is on the same level as the other Vorpal
Blade, not far after "I hate cowards".

If anyone is interested, I just uploaded a file that contains a GEM file
that I made using Easy-Draw that is a graphically orientated spell list. I
got tired of trying to remember which word was which symbol. The file will
be number 5967 when it clears sysop approval. I only listed the 25 spell
that I knew and (mostly) tried out.

everything they had in this system, in Dungeon Master! I can't imagine
what they have up their sleaves <sp?>, but I'd be willing to pay for it

FTL is comming out with a mini adventure in early march. It works as
an expansion disk to the
Dungeon Master disk. It will be available to registered owners of DM. No
price as yet, call FTL for further details. Excuse the mess, my finger
slipped.
The hint book will be out in March, will be about 60 pages, but no
maps I think

Hmm, not sure I like the idea of posting a graphics spell list. I have
such a list for myself, but... it seems to me that needing to enter the
spells with graphics characters, but learning them as words, constitutes a
sort of "piracy protection". I get really angry when I see messages (very
rare here, fortunately) from which it is obvious the sender does not have
the manual, therefore has stolen the game. It's very satisfying to see
the consternation of a pirate when they try to figure out how to cast a
"Ful Bro Neta" spell without having the manual!

Corey, I never thought of that when I uploaded the file. But, some of the
spells that are on my list were trial and error or from one of the earlier
lists. And, the earlier avaiable lists were done in symbol order anyway.
But this will all be moot when (or if) the DM help book is available,
unless FTL will only sell it directly to registered onwers. Anyway, my
spell reference has come in handy when some monster comes and beats on me,
and I need to know a spell fast. Especially if the one I just tried
doesn't work. Oh well, it is now time for me to sign off the system and
try to defeat the 7th level (one below the Firestaff level).

Hello everyone. I've been reading the messages on Dungeon Master. It is
an excellent game. I just finished a review on Comput about it. I've
made it to level 10. So far I have had no problems wwith lock up. I
still can't wait for the hint book. I talked to FTL today, and they said
the hint book wouldn't give too much away. You still have to work for it.
Has anyone made a map of the levels after #7?

I have the entire dungeon mapped (with the exception of level 13, where I
was generally a bit *ahem* too busy to think about mapping. Be prepared
for some work on level 12 also (counting Hall of Champions as Level 1),
incidentally. But the maps are all on paper, and I have no scanner.
The lockups generally only occur in the "endgame", when you are fighting
Lord Chaos and take certain sets of actions (for instance, *don't* try to
close a door on his head!) I had the game lock up once in a freak
situation on level 12, but was never able to duplicate it. Just make sure
you save from time to time and you'll be fine.
I'm looking forward to the hint book, even though I've finished the game,
to fill in some of the plot line details (such as, just who were the
knights of Lyte and Darc? You'll be encountering some of their belongings
soon, don't worry, this "clue" doesn't affect game play at all.) I'm also
looking forward to the mini-scenario (for registered owners only), which
is also supposed to come out in March.

SYSTEM ERROR 60!! SYSTEM ERROR 60!! Run for your lives!! The Bugs are
here! (And you thought flying snakes were bad).
I need some advice, preferably from someone from FTL. I sat down tonight
ready for another marathon session of DM, but every time I load my saved
game and begin play, the game locks up after about 60 seconds, and I get
"SYSTEM ERROR 60" at the top left of the screen! Yikes!
I first assumed it was a corrupted save file, so I trashed it (sigh) and
renamed the .BAK file there to .DAT and reloaded. No luck! It resumed like
it's supposed to, but locked up after 60 seconds (this is a different file
this time). In case an FTL Implementor is reading this, here are some odd
symptoms the game displays in the 60 seconds before the error message
occurs:
1) All monsters are frozen. (Great, right?)
2) When a character takes a swing at these locked-up monsters, the
weapon box goes half-tone (like normal) but never recovers. Also, the blow
never connects (no whoosh or damage).
3) Character movement through the dungeon is unimpeded.(Quick, map!!)
4) I happen to be on level three (Hall of Chumps=0) in front of the
short cut sign and keyhole. I ran to the coin slot, made a deposit, ran
back to the keyhole, inserted the key, and nothing happens. I assume from
my perusal of the hint stuff here and there thet some sort of teleporter
should appear, but no.
Also, in case you may wonder, I have kept the write-protect tab ON (I
can see through it, yup). It came that way and has stayed that way. One
other thing you may or may not think, there has been NO HANKY-PANKY with
the game disk or save disk files, I'm not into unauthorised copies.
I almost forgot: I posess Version 1.0.
Can you help me?? I'm going through withdrawl already! Yikes!!

J.Lyons II: Haven't run into the problem myself, but I've heard that you
can run into problems if you change save disks during a session; I think
it's something like losing the whole party, then restoring from a
different position than you originally restored from . . . either that,
or simply saving to more than one disk in a session. I think this might
have been fixed in version 1.1, but I think you have to send them your
master disk to get it, and wait a week or so. Not sure you'll be able to
withstand the DT's doing that! Anyway, you might give FTL a call; I think
their number is on the newsletter that came with D.M.

COREY- Thanks, I'll give them a call. I think the problem is in the
master disk now, because I restarted from a cold boot and hit ENTER as
opposed to RESUME and after entering the Hall of Champions the game
locked up, System Error 60ut to no avail....I have
avoided all the worms and killed everything else in sight. Wolf is up to
74 Mana and itching to fight someone new.
The maps show two staircases, one hidden. X-rays (I think as I hit the
wrong sequwnce for the lightening or whatever) show the hidden stairs.
but I cannot get in or get the steel door open. I also cannot do anything
but kill the prisioner. This level is losing it"s entertainment value
